Overview

As dusk falls over Reykjavík, the Northern Lights Cruise offers you the chance to experience the Icelandic night in a unique way. On this tour, you will sail from the Old Harbour out to the open sea, towards the dark Faxaflói Bay, far away from the light pollution of the city. There, with panoramic views of the starry sky, you will have the best chance to admire the Northern Lights in all their glory.

The Northern Lights Cruise departs daily from 1 September to 15 April and lasts between 1.5 and 2.5 hours, depending on conditions. Departing from Ægisgarður Pier in the heart of Reykjavík’s Old Harbour, the cruise is a great way to see the Northern Lights. Before the boat docks, you can watch a short but informative multimedia presentation at the Whale Watching Centre about the origins, colours and myths of the Northern Lights. This not only provides context, but also heightens the excitement for what you will hopefully see with your own eyes.

This Northern Lights Cruise offers you the option to rebook for free if you don't see the Northern Lights.

The view was breathtaking. It was very cold but they had arranged warm suites so I could stay outside all night and watch the lights.

The boat ride was nice. Very rough and cloudy but at the end of the two hours it cleared up a bit to take some pictures. Cold at the top but nice view.

This company is very friendly and nice to work with. We didn't see the northern lights because of the clouds and had to reschedule our trip to another night. They really want you to have a good experience.

It’s so awesome that they offer free return tickets if you don’t see the Northern Lights the first time. That happened to us. We saw them on our second night 😊. The experience was amazing and the staff is very professional. They responded to my emails very quickly. They also sent free professional photos of the Northern Lights, which was a nice surprise since I couldn’t take good photos of them with my phone.

Absolutely amazing! We got engaged earlier that day and it was the icing on the cake.

The guide was exemplary and we were lucky enough to see the Northern Lights.
