Description

The Golden Circle & Secret Lagoon Tour takes you on an unforgettable journey through Iceland’s breathtaking landscape. Start your day relaxing with a dip in the Secret Lagoon (Gamla Laugin), one of the country’s oldest natural hot springs. As steam rises from the surrounding geothermal springs, soak in the warm, mineral-rich water, which has a constant temperature of 38-40°C. A small active geyser bubbles in the background, creating a unique atmosphere that will help you relax before your adventure continues.

After this relaxing start, you’ll drive on to the impressive Geysir Geothermal Area in the Haukadalur Valley. Here you’ll experience the power of nature as Strokkur, an active geyser, shoots a powerful jet of water tens of meters into the air every few minutes. The area is filled with bubbling mud pools and steaming hot springs, giving it an almost otherworldly feel. If the fresh air whets your appetite, you can enjoy a traditional Icelandic meal at the nearby Glíma Geysir Restaurant.

Not far from Geysir, one of Iceland’s most iconic natural wonders awaits: Gullfoss Waterfall. Also known as the “Golden Falls,” this impressive waterfall plunges 32 meters into a rugged canyon in two large steps. As you walk along the edge of the cliffs, you’ll feel the spray on your face and hear the thundering sound of the falling water – a powerful and unforgettable sight.

The journey continues to the historic Þingvellir National Park, a place of geological and cultural significance. This UNESCO World Heritage Site lies right on the fault line between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates, meaning you can literally walk between two continents. It also plays an important role in Icelandic history: in 930, the country’s first parliament was founded here, making Þingvellir one of the oldest parliamentary sites in the world. As you walk through the rugged landscape of lava fields and crystal-clear springs, you can feel the rich history that this place exudes.

As a final stop, you’ll visit the impressive Kerið crater, a colorful volcanic crater with a bright blue lake at the bottom. The red and orange hues of the steep crater walls contrast beautifully with the water, making this one of the most photogenic locations of the day. You can take a walk along the crater rim or descend to the lake to see this special natural phenomenon up close.

After a day of stunning nature and relaxation, you will return to Reykjavík, with memories of steaming geysers, thundering waterfalls and the warm waters of the Secret Lagoon. This tour offers a perfect mix of adventure, relaxation and history – an experience you will remember for a long time.

Pickup

Reykjavik

You will be picked up at the chosen pick-up location. Please note that there may be delays as people are picked up at different locations and traffic can cause delays.

Secret Lagoon

Start the day with a relaxing dip in the Secret Lagoon, one of the oldest natural geothermal pools in Iceland, nestled between bubbling hot springs and a small erupting geyser. Steam rises from the surrounding geothermal area as you relax in the warm, mineral-rich waters, which are 38-40*C year-round.

Geysir Geothermal Area

An active geothermal area, the Geysir area has many fascinating features to see. Steam vents, bubbling pits, warm pools, with different colors, and the biggest highlight of the area, the Strokkur geyser which erupts every 5-10 minutes up to 20 meters (65.62 ft) high in the air, a real spectacle of nature. And the Great Geysir is a calm, blue depth of water nearby. A visitor center is right next to the area with shops and several lunch options.

Safety is important, so a reminder to visitors to walk alone along the trail as the steaming pits and hissing water boil beneath your feet at extremely high temperatures.

Gullfoss waterfall

Gullfoss Waterfall, also known as the “Golden Falls”, is a beautiful, wide waterfall that plunges 11 metres (36 ft), then 21 metres (68 ft), roaring down into the depths of the canyon, with cliffs rising up to 70 metres (230 ft). You will feel its powerful presence as you approach the waterfall and take in its stunning visuals and intriguing history. Gullfoss River is fed by the Hvítá River, or White River, which originates from the Langjökull Glacier.

Thingvellir National Park

Thingvellir National Park is a site of both geological and cultural significance and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004.

Thingvellir is home to the exposed part of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, the divergent rift between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates, meaning you are between two continents, here, in Iceland. The Öxarárfoss waterfall cuts through the ridge with a stunning 13-metre (42.65 ft) drop, which you will visit as you walk along the trail.

The world's first parliament was established in Iceland, here in Thingvellir, in 930 AD. From Hakið lookout, you can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the entire area. Þingvellir Church, consecrated in 1859, boasts a simple, elegant appearance that adds a historical and cultural touch to the natural landscape. Nearby is Almannagjá Gorge, with its clear glacial water flowing deep within the lava walls. The water originates from Iceland's second-largest glacier, Langjökull, which has broken through the porous lava fields below.

Your driver/guide will pick you up further down the Rift Valley.

Volcanic crater Kerið

The remarkable crater lake, Kerið, is another popular attraction on Iceland’s Golden Circle route, famous for its greenish lake water and colorful crater formations on its slopes. Kerið crater was formed approximately 3,000 years ago during a volcanic eruption when the volcanic chamber collapsed after the burning magma was exhausted. It is shaped like a perfect inverted cone and a path has been built so that visitors can view the site. As a bonus, Kerið crater has been a popular concert venue for many years!

Drop-off

Reykjavik

You will be dropped off at the place where you were picked up that morning. This concludes a day full of impressions and experiences that have introduced you to the real Iceland.

It was a long day visiting the Golden Circle, as well as the volcanic crater and time in the secret lagoon, but we never felt rushed or pressed for time.
Our guide Else spoke excellent English and was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic but not pushy. Paco our driver was great especially when the weather changed on the way home.
