Join the 3-Day Best of Iceland Tour and discover an impressive array of natural wonders, from spouting geysers and thundering waterfalls to glaciers, black beaches and iconic mountains. This carefully curated tour will introduce you to the diversity of Iceland, as you return to the comfort of your Reykjavík hotel each evening.
Your adventure begins in the afternoon, perfect if you’re traveling with kids or prefer to take it easy. The 3-Day Best of Iceland Tour begins with a convenient pickup from central Reykjavík. From the city, you’ll head southwest toward some of the country’s most famous natural phenomena.
First stop: Þingvellir National Park – a unique place where you can literally walk between two continental plates. This is where the foundations of Icelandic democracy were laid, with the oldest parliament in the world meeting here from 930 AD. As you walk past gorges and lava fields, you’ll feel the deep history and geological power of this place.
Then you travel to the geothermal area of Geysir, where you can see the famous Strokkur geyser spout boiling water into the air every ten minutes. The smell of sulphur, the hissing sound of steam and the sudden eruption make this a spectacular natural phenomenon.
Next, you’ll visit the mighty Gullfoss waterfall, fed by meltwater from the Langjökull glacier. As you walk along the edge of the canyon, feel the spray on your face and, on sunny days, see a rainbow appear above the waterfall.
End the day at the colorful Kerið volcanic crater, filled with a blue-green lake and surrounded by red and black rocks. You can walk around the rim or descend to the surface for a unique view of this 6,500-year-old crater. Afterwards, return to Reykjavík for your first overnight stay.
On the second day of the 3-Day Best of Iceland Tour you’ll travel along the spectacular south coast. After pick-up in Reykjavík, you’ll head east along the Ring Road, taking in views of volcanoes, islands and sweeping landscapes along the way.
The first stop is Skógafoss, a powerful 60-metre-high waterfall. If you're up for a challenge, climb the 527 steps to the lookout point at the top – the view is worth it.
Afterwards, visit the famous Reynisfjara black sand beach, with its impressive basalt columns and views of the mysterious Reynisdrangar sea stacks. The contrast between the black sand and the white foaming water is unparalleled. Just watch out for the treacherous sneaker waves – safety first.
After a short stop in the village of Vík, where you can enjoy views over the ocean, you continue your hike to the Sólheimajökull glacier. You will walk right up to the edge of the ice, learning about the formation of glaciers, climate change and the spectacular landscapes that result from it.
You’ll end the day at Seljalandsfoss, an elegant waterfall that you can walk right behind. Don’t forget your raincoat – you’re guaranteed not to stay dry. Then you’ll head back to Reykjavík for your second night.
The third and final day of the 3-Day Best of Iceland Tour takes you west to the scenic Snæfellsnes Peninsula, often called “Iceland in miniature” for its variety of natural phenomena.
You’ll start at the mysterious Berserkjahraun lava fields, formed by an eruption thousands of years ago and intertwined with legendary Icelandic sagas. Then, you’ll drive to the iconic Kirkjufell Mountain, one of the most photographed places in Iceland. The nearby Kirkjufellsfoss waterfall completes the picture.
In Snæfellsjökull National Park you can admire the glacier and volcano of the same name that watches over the landscape. This place was the starting point of Jules Verne's 'Journey to the Center of the Earth' and continues to capture the imagination.
On the beach at Djúpalónssandur you can see bizarre lava formations, the remains of a shipwreck and test yourself with ancient ‘strength stones’ used by fishermen in the past. Afterwards, visit the rugged basalt cliffs of Lóndrangar and walk along the bird-rich coastline at Arnarstapi, with views of natural arches and jagged rock formations.
Before returning to Reykjavík, make a photo stop at the iconic black church of Búðir, followed by a visit to the surprisingly serene Ytri Tunga Beach, where seals can often be seen basking on the rocks in the sun.
During the 3-day Best of Iceland Tour you will spend two nights in a comfortable hotel in the centre of Reykjavík. The accommodations are carefully selected based on location, comfort and quality, so you can relax every evening after a day of adventure.
You will spend the night in a private room with private bathroom, clean sheets and towels, and free Wi-Fi. Breakfast is included, so you can start the next morning with a new day full of impressions. Thanks to the central location of the hotel, you are within walking distance of cozy restaurants, cafes and shops — ideal for soaking up the atmosphere of the city in the evening.
Whether you're travelling alone, with a partner or as a family, your accommodation in Reykjavík is the perfect base for this unforgettable tour.
During winter travels in Iceland, hotels offer a Northern Lights wake-up service so you don’t miss this enchanting natural phenomenon. It’s an Icelandic winter highlight that you definitely don’t want to miss!
If you are traveling alone, you may be assigned a room with another traveler (of the same gender). If you do not want this, choose the 'Single Room Fee' during checkout. You pay extra for a separate room for yourself, for both nights.
Reykjavik
You will be picked up at the chosen pick-up location. Please note that there may be delays as people are picked up at different locations and traffic can cause delays.
The tour starts in the early afternoon in Reykjavík, where you will board a comfortable minibus and head to the famous Golden Circle.
The first stop is the impressive Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site of both historical and geological significance. Here you can walk between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates, which are visibly drifting apart. Þingvellir was also the site of Iceland’s first parliament, founded in 930.
Next, you’ll visit the geothermal area of Geysir, where bubbling hot springs and steam vents create a surreal landscape. The star of the area is Strokkur, an active geyser that shoots a powerful jet of water dozens of meters into the air every few minutes.
Next stop is the majestic Gullfoss Waterfall, one of Iceland's most powerful and beautiful waterfalls. The water cascades down in two stages into a deep canyon, making for a spectacular view.
Your day ends at the colorful Kerið crater, an impressive bowl of red rock filled with bright blue water. Walk along the crater rim and feel how old and alive this landscape is. Want to get closer? Then you can descend to the lake and admire the contrast of colors up close.
On day two you travel further east and come face to face with Iceland's mighty glaciers and waterfalls.
This mysterious beach with its black sand and geometric basalt columns seems to come from another world. You can hear the surf crashing against the rocks as you gaze out at the jagged Reynisdrangar sea stacks. Watch out for the infamous sneaker waves — nature here is as beautiful as it is powerful.
In the picturesque village of Vík you can enjoy a short break and a beautiful view of the coast. The white church on top of the hill and the black beaches below provide a contrast that you will not see anywhere else. This is the southernmost point of the Icelandic mainland — a place that feels like the end of the world.
After a short walk, you’ll reach the edge of the impressive Sólheimajökull glacier. As you walk along the rocky path, you’ll see the ice looming before you — rugged, cracked, alive. Your guide will tell you about the formation of glaciers, climate change, and how quickly the ice is retreating here.
This elegant waterfall is not only beautiful to look at — you can also walk behind it. From this unique angle, you can see the water cascading down against the sun as a backdrop. Don't forget your raincoat, because you won't stay dry. Also nearby is the hidden Gljúfrabúi waterfall, hidden behind a gorge.
Your day begins with a dive into the Icelandic world of legend. This vast lava field was created by an eruption 4,000 years ago and plays a major role in the legendary Eyrbyggja Saga. As you walk through the moss-covered landscape, you will feel the power of volcanic origins and the mysticism of ancient stories.
You’re standing face to face with Iceland’s most famous mountain. Mt. Kirkjufell rises from the landscape like a perfect arrowhead, with the picturesque Kirkjufellsfoss waterfall in the foreground. This is the perfect place for your postcard photo — and a familiar location for Game of Thrones fans, too.
On this rugged black beach you can feel how the sea and volcanoes have shaped the landscape. Here you can still find wreckage from a ship that sank in 1948. Test your strength on the old ‘strength measuring stones’ that fishermen used to prove their worth — and be impressed by the silence and ruggedness of the surroundings.
Two basalt peaks rise high above the ocean, formed by centuries of erosion. A walking trail takes you past viewpoints where you can experience the full force of the Atlantic waves. These jagged rocks are not only a natural wonder, but also a home for birds that nest here.
In the fishing village of Arnarstapi, you’ll walk along paths along steep cliffs where thousands of seabirds nest. You’ll cross a natural stone arch and look out over the rugged coastline — a place where the sea continues to shape the landscape, day after day.
The black wooden church of Búðir stands alone in an open lava field, surrounded by mountains and sea. The contrast between the black facade and the pale Icelandic light creates an image that will remain etched on your retina for a long time.
You’ll end the trip with a visit to Ytri Tunga, a sandy beach where you might be lucky enough to see seals sunbathing on the rocks. The peaceful atmosphere and soft light make this a relaxing last stop before driving back to Reykjavík.
After three days of natural wonders, you will return to Reykjavík in the evening, with a camera full of beautiful photos and memories of an unforgettable adventure.
