Driving a car in Iceland
The car is the ideal means of transport to discover Iceland in a relaxed way during your road trip. With a car you can discover the beauty of the island at your own pace and plan your own route. The roads in Iceland are also easy to drive and it is great for tourists because the roads are never busy. If you want to drive in Iceland, you do not need an international driving license. Most European driving licenses, including those from the Netherlands and Belgium, are accepted. During the winter you should be careful because the roads can be really slippery. You can rent a car at Keflavik International Airport. It is advisable to reserve this in advance.
